About Index Tower

Index Tower is an 80-storey mixed-use skyscraper located in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) along Sheikh Zayed Road. Developed by Union Properties, construction began in 2005 and the building was completed in 2010. The tower rises 328 metres (1,076 ft.) and is considered one of the most recognizable structures in Dubai’s skyline.

Index Tower contains residential apartments, offices, and retail spaces within a single vertical development. The tower features approximately 520 residential units, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments as well as luxury penthouses located on the highest floors.

The architectural design of Index Tower was developed by Foster + Partners. The building’s long and narrow floor plan was created to maximize natural light while maintaining column-free office spaces. Structural cores were placed at the building edges and an A-frame structure helps distribute loads and resist wind and seismic forces.

The design was partly inspired by the John Hancock Center in Chicago. The building also features an east-west orientation to reduce direct sunlight exposure, helping maintain interior temperatures below 28°C. The development won the CTBUH Best Tall Building Middle East & Africa Award in 2011.
